ANALYZING ONLINE MEDIA NEWS ABOUT HABIB RIZIEQ SHIHAB (AFTER RETURNING FROM SAUDI ARABIA UNTIL HIS ARREST): CASE STUDY ON DETIK.COM, KOMPAS.COM AND TEMPO.CO

Abstrak

This article examines news frames on news sites Detik.com, Kompas.com, and Tempo.co regarding Habib Rizieq after returning from Saudi Arabia until his arrest. Framing is how events are presented by the media by emphasizing certain parts, highlighting certain aspects, and raising a certain way of telling a reality or event so that it is easily remembered by public. This study uses a qualitative research approach with an interpretive type. This study shows that news about Habib Rizieq's return from Saudi Arabia which caused congestion and flight delays, among Detik.com, Kompas.com, and Tempo.co took different news frames. Detik.com sees the arrival of Habib Rizieq, who has caused traffic jams had a bad impact on the Indonesian economy, while Kompas.com and Tempo.com view that the event was just like as breaking news which only affected the life of Megapolitan (Jabodetabek). Regarding news of the arrest process, detik.com reports that Rizieq Shihab was in good condition as he arrived as a suspect. Kompas.com consistently sees that the news about Habib Rizieq was only breaking news (not a big event). Likewise with Tempo.co, the case of a crowd at Rizieq Shihab's daughter's wedding was seen as an event that only had an effect on the residents of Jabodetabek, and Habib Rizieq's arrival to Metro Jaya Police was to surrender, not to comply with the police's calls because of fearness.
